Umpire C Shamshuddin, who gave the horrendous lbw decision against Joe Root in the final over at Nagpur, decided to step down from the third T20 in Bengaluru a few hours began before the match. Root was batting on 38 in the previous match, and England needed eight runs from the final over, when Root was given out lbw to Jasprit Bumrah. India went on to win the match by five runs as Bumrah conceded only two runs in the final over. Shamshuddin withdrew from the game stating that he was not feeling a hundred per cent. He will be the third umpire for the game while Nitin Menon will do the on-field duties.

The England team management and skipper Eoin Morgan were enraged with the decision handed out to Root, but the man himself took a gracious view of the situation. "I never had any problems with umpires in any game. As a player you can commit mistakes and you can get things wrong, and as an umpire it is exactly the same. It will not be right to signal any man as an umpire," Root told reporters on the eve of the Bengaluru. Root, however, added that had it been a big game, he would have been disappointed. "If it had been a semi-final and we could not make it to the final due to a decision we would feel bit disappointed as we have to live with it in the aftermath," Root admitted.

"But credit to Bumrah that he bowled so well in the death and defended seven runs in the last over," he aadds. On the Decision Review System (DRS) for T20, Root stated "May be it is nice to see DRS in this form of game as well, but we are looking ahead for tomorrow's match."

He added that they would like to finish the tough tour on a high. "It has been a tough tour, but we have enjoyed. We have played good cricket of late, but it will be nice to get a well-deserved win in tomorrow's game," Root said.
